Pastor 4th Anniversary Letters

Letter from Pastor and Founder Reverend John Melvin Wooten

November 6, 2005

Happy Anniversary to all the saints at Higher Calling Baptist Church! God has allowed us to complete another portion or our journey. As we reflect over this year, we can agree that not surprisingly, we again faced trials and adversity. We can also note that the level of the trouble seemed to intensify. Yet, God is faithful and continues to use these things to cause us to grow and mature in Him. We can agree with Paul when he says "But Thanks be unto God which always causes us to triumph in Christ!" 2 Chronicles 2:14a

Last year we said we believed God wanted to take us to the next level of ministry. As we have focused on our core scripture this year, Luke 9:23, God prepared us through His Word. For when we look at what Jesus said, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daiy, and follow Me" we are made aware of the facts that following Jesus, denying ourselves and taking up our cross, daily, is at best a press.

I believe we have seen more clearly in this past year what a life set apart for Christ requires. The more we allow God's will to take pre-eminence, the more we seek to take up our cross, the more we have to press toward the mark.

But let us be mindful that our journey is a daily walk. It is very important that we take up our cross daily. Consistency is one of the most important keys in dying to our will and bringing our flesh under subjection. We cannot seek God in "spurts" and expect to reach maturity. The victory goes to those who abide in Him.

In Psalm 91:1 we are told "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Also John 15:4-7 clearly speaks of the importance of abiding. We must continue to live a life of "sacrifice" by submitting our will and desires to that of our Savior. As we have progressed through the year and endured struggles, we have also seen God's hand at work in the midst of Higher Calling. There have been some major achievements, spiritually and materially. There have been some milestones set this year; for which we give God the glory!

I encourage each of you to continue to seek to follow God in all that you do. He has allowed us the chance to do better than we did last year, to come up Higher in Him. God has afforded you the opportunity to complete the assignment given to you as part of the vision of Higher Calling.

Higher Calling, in the words of the Apostle Paul: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58

God Bless You All and May Heaven Smile Upon You!

Message from the Youth Pastor — Reverend Tammy Pender

November 6, 2005

First giving honor to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for it is He that has blessed us this far. By faith we've made it through another prosperous year. Truly we have seen great increase this year and we're looking to go higher and higher!

I would like to thank our Youth Choir for letting God use you in such a powerful way. I thank God for Sister Belinda McPhail who has worked very deligently with our Youth Choir. I'm also very grateful for our Youth Advisors: Sister Angela Morgan, Sister Anna Thompson, Sister Vanessa Fields, and Sister Monique Patton.

I'm very excited about our Boys' Ministry. Reverend Patton has lots of plans for you guys — "Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy!". We also plan to move forward with our Step-Team & Dancers, and we're working on a "Skit Ministry" for our youger kids.

I encourage all our youth to attend Upward Bound, Sunday School and Youth Bible Study. Our focus scripture for 2006 is Isaiah 54:13

"And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children."

Be Blessed!

Rev. Tammy
