ST. Mark 12:13 - 17(NIV)

13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. 14 They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? 15 Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” He asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” 16 They brought the coin, and He asked them, ““Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”

“Caesar’s,” they replied.

17 Then Jesus said to them, ““Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

And they were amazed at him.

That dreaded day has come and gone again. You know what day I’m talking about…April 15, the day that taxes are due.

For many of us tax season is a stressful time and it is loaded with anxiety as we struggle to come up with what is owed. Very often we get upset because we just don’t want to pay up.

The desire to bilk the government is even stronger now that the state has increased taxes for working class citizens and created less of a tax burden on the wealthy.

Besides, we need that money!!! We could put every dime of that money to good use!

However, I encourage you this year as in times past to PAY YOUR TAXES!!!

Jesus told us to give back to the government (Caesar) what belongs to the government. It is lawful and right to do so. We use the services, protection and order that is provided by the government (Caesar). Therefore we are obligated to pay up.
However, don’t let it get you down. Jesus Himself paid taxes. (St. Matthew 17:24 – 27)

The Apostle Paul told us in Romans 13:7 that if we owe taxes then we should pay the taxes that we owe.
Yep! I am with you. I hate taxes but I love God and desire to be obedient to Him in every way. So I pay the taxes that I owe. (God have mercy!)

Oh, and I also want to stay out of trouble with the IRS.

But the good news is even in paying taxes God is a present help and He makes a way for us to “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s.

So stop your stressing. Put a smile on your face and Thank God for His help because he will provide what you need to pay the taxes.

God bless you is my prayer!!!
