Holy Week continued

Holy Saturday

During the day on Holy Saturday, Jesus lay in his tomb and his followers mourned his death. A guard stood watch to make sure no one tried to steal the body.

Early Sunday morning, it was discovered that Jesus was no longer in the tomb and had risen from the dead.

This miraculous event marks Easter Sunday and the end of Holy Week.

Jesus conquered death, both spiritually and physically, securing our eternal salvation. St. Peter declared “For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.”(1 Peter 1:18 – 19)

Thank God for the sacrifice and triumph of our risen Lord, Jesus Christ!

Dr. J. M. Wooten

It should be noted that the exact order of events during Holy Week is debated by Bible scholars. This timeline represents an approximate outline of major events as I interpret them. jmw
