A Word About Interacting On Social Media

“Be wise in the way you act with those who are not believers. Use your time in the best way you can. When you talk, you should always be kind and wise. Then you will be able to answer everyone in the way you should.” Col. 4:5-6 ERV

Do you have a Facebook page? Or do you have twitter account, Instagram, Google+, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Pinterest etc.? Many of us do, as social media is fast becoming a way of life on planet earth… and not just for children.

The Internet is so impersonal. We see tiny little thumbnail photos of people. We see words typed out on a screen rather than hear them spoken out loud. The environment almost compels us to be rude because it lacks the subtle social cues, you know, the wince or the moment of quiet — that tell us we’ve crossed the line. That environment tends to empower us and also gives us a sense of anonymity as we tap away on our keyboards in response to what we see on whatever site we use. And very often our responses to what we see and read are harsh. Very often our responses are cold and even downright mean and hurtful. Not to mention, our responses could come back to haunt us as others can and do view those responses. Others like friends, parents, teachers, employers and even pastors.

I would like to suggest to you Higher Calling that you always think, even pray before you post!

The older generation was right when they told us: “If you can’t say something good about a person, don’t say anything at all.”

The Apostle Paul told us in Colossians “Be wise in the way you act with those who are not believers. Use your time in the best way you can. When you talk, you should always be kind and wise. Then you will be able to answer everyone in the way you should.”

Spend time in The Word of God before turning on the computer. Get His truth in you, and then you won’t write things that are mean or hurtful. At the very least, whisper a prayer before you post, asking the Holy Ghost to guide your heart and mind as you decide how to post on social media sites.
