Be Persistent in 2015

“May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.” – 2 Thess. 3:5

Every January, The Planet Fitness gym is packed to the max. Sometimes you get your exercise just walking from your car to the building because you can’t find a place to park that is close to the gym.

Ever since I’ve been using Planet Fitness I have noticed that in January the gym is always crowded as people pack into the gym to kick off their New Year’s resolutions. I’ve also noticed that the crowds will only last about 4-6 weeks, and then things will get back to normal as those people decide to give up on those fitness resolutions they were so excited about just a few weeks before.

How sad it is that many of us tend to do the same thing with our spiritual life. When the New Year begins we are motivated to make some needed changes and we jump to it heartily. We start to pray daily, to worship more, to praise God and to attend church consistently. We even begin to tithe faithfully in our attempt to have a closer relationship with our Christ. However, in just a few weeks, many of us find ourselves right back in the same old patterns as before.

But this year can be different. Let this year be the year that you stick to your resolutions. If you really want to renew your relationship with God then just be committed to do better.

Friends, you can find the divine, determined motivation you need to really take your walk with Christ to the next level but there is no magic pill you can take for that. There is no mantra to recite that can replace simply staying committed to what’s important.

Persistence is nothing more than starting again every day. So don’t feel discouraged if you’ve tried to start again and failed. Every day is a new day; treat it as such. Don’t be discouraged by what happened yesterday. Get up and start new today!
