St. Matthew 5:14, 16 (KJV)

14. "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”

16. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

In these verses Jesus is talking about the influence for good that believers should have on the people they are in contact with on a daily basis. Jesus called His followers “the light of the world”.

In this world, with all of its vices, evil inventions and wickedness, people are lost in the darkness of sin. It is up to us as ambassadors of Christ to invade the darkness with the “Light of Life” that has been given to us. We do that through our influence. It is our responsibility as Christians to bless the world by the silent and gracious influence of holy living. That is how we glorify our Father and it is how we influence the world.

Who you are and what you are will always affect others much more than who or what you say you are. Nobody really cares what you say regardless of how sincere you are when you say it, unless, your words are confirmed by your actions. When your words and your actions glorify God, you have the power to impact those around you in a positive way. Your influence will draw your loved ones to Jesus. Your influence will even cause your enemies to seek Jesus. It is wonderful what love and consistent, patient, prayerful influence can and will do among the people you are in contact with.

Jesus called us “the light of the world”. He put His Light in us. Let us allow that light which is within us to shine out on the dark world.

God bless you is my prayer!
